The identity of the killer of Patrick Jane’s family revealed

Have you discovered the identity of Red John in The Mentalist?

The serial killer who turned Patrick Jane’s (Simon Baker) life into hell, killing his family with cruelty, was revealed in the sixth season of the show. He was Sheriff Thomas McAllister, played by Xander Berkeley!

“Xander is a wonderfully subtle actor who can go deep enough to be our Red John,” said The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller in an interview with TV Guide. “McAllister made more sense. He had the perfect cover job as sheriff of Napa County, where he was the domain master. No one ever questioned his whereabouts. He didn’t have to answer to anyone.”

But that wasn’t the only surprise. Jane got her revenge by killing her enemy. The moment was also marked by the character’s farewell, who left a message to Lisbon that he was fine and would be missed.

The show ran for seven seasons and aired its final episode in 2015.

Why did Red John kill Patrick Jane’s family?

The crime TV series starred Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) as a charlatan psychic who has his life destroyed by a notorious killer. Famous for his unusual methods, with enormous powers of deduction, the protagonist has a remarkable track record for solving crimes.

But the former psychic has a greater goal when he joins the CBI (California Bureau of Investigation) team: to capture Red John, the serial killer who mercilessly murdered his wife and daughter.

The Mentalist premiered in 2008 and ran for seven seasons. Recently, the CBS channel announced that it is studying a new version of the series or the possibility of a revival with the main cast.

Who is the real Red John?

The character was a classic psychopath: a great villain, narcissistic, without empathy, and manipulative. He built up such a seductive image that he managed to win over many followers throughout the series.

In the first episode of The Mentalist, Patrick Jane says that Red John is a man who likes the spotlight and therefore uses the “happy face” symbol as a trademark for his crimes.

The killer was also cultured. He liked to listen to his ex-girlfriend, Rosalind Harker, play music by Johann Sebastian Bach, his favorite composer. Red John was fascinated by the work of the English painter and poet William Blake, which is why he named his organization the Blake Association, even using it for crime.

Like Jane, Red John likes tea and was seen drinking it in his appearances in the episodes Red John’s Footsteps and Red Is The New Black.

Red John’s followers look up to him, almost like in a cult, and are willing to do anything he asks, even if it means taking the life of an innocent person. For the killer, his accomplices are disposable tools and only exist to fulfill one purpose: to torment Patrick Jane’s life.

In which season is Red John killed?

And what was the outcome of the plot? Patrick Jane finally comes face to face with Red John in season 6 of The Mentalist, after hunting the killer for 10 years.

Gale Bertram has arranged to meet Patrick in a Los Angeles church. But he discovers that the character is not Red John, just one of his followers. Gale tries to kill Jane, but Oscar shoots him instead.

Sheriff McAllister then appears and orders Oscar to remain outside and ensure that he and Jane are not disturbed. McAllister reveals his identity! Unimpressed, Jane calls her enemy an evil, sexually perverted sociopath with pathetic delusions of grandeur. The sheriff, for his part, reveals how he faked his death with the help of Brett Partridge, with a corpse, a stun grenade, and a bomb.

The FBI discovers that Jane is in Alexandria Cemetery, chasing Red John, who was wounded moments before. The chase is about to end. The FBI arrives at the cemetery and starts racing to find Patrick. He manages to capture the killer, taking his life, and fleeing the scene before Lisbon finds him.
